States
My son is in 2nd grade at a private school. I am amazing at the stuff he is learning and what he already knows. They give us progress reports and he is reading at 120 words a minute… wow, I wonder how I compare to that.
Yesterday, we had to study for this states test. This year they are learning the names of the states and where they are located. Apparently they have done 22 of the states so far and as we were studying last night, I was testing him with the sheet they sent home.
He was guessing on some of them, he knew most, but when it got over to the AZ, NM, CO, UT, WY and MT states, I was thouroughly confused! I am a visual learner, so I associate things with sight. So if you notice, all those states are pretty much little squares, so I get easily confused!
Idaho, Texas, California, Florida - those are easy to remember because they are shaped funny!
Now I’m concerned about when we get to the east coast!!! Guess I’m not smarter than a 2nd grader!
The Breast Cancer 3 Day
This past september, my best friend and I participated in The Breast Cancer 3 Day in the Twin Cities. It was our first time, it took a lot out of both of us, but we plan on doing it again. It was one of the most moving experience we have ever done. Walking mile after mile in a sea of pink, it’s just moving to watch thousands of people walking to help end breast cancer. Something that will touch someones life at one point or another. For me, it touched me personally, my mom passed away from Breast Cancer December 12 2007 after battling Breast Cancer for close to 4 years. Katie and I decided to the event in memory of her, the two of us trecked out to raise the required $2200 to participate in the event, and to train to walk the 60 miles. Unfortunatly we didn’t train enough and we only walked about 30, but for the two of us that was a HUGE accomplishment, and we met some amazing ladies on this event. Now we have planned to take part in this event again this year but in a much larger group in Hopes that we can make the entire 60 miles. It will be tough, but knowing what we know now, I know that we can do it. Here is a video from The Closing Ceremonies from this past walk, taken place at The Capitol. Such an emotional experience, I think everyone should take part in this wonderful event.
